Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Symphony

June 21, 2010 |  by Joe  |  Motion  |  No Comments

Could Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Symphony be a new way to listen to music? The idea of CD Jewel cases are almost archaic. To be honest I haven’t actually touched one since about 5 years ago, but for this little microchip package I’d carry the CD case everywhere. It’s really neat and the music is super catchy.

Tristan Perich’s 1-Bit Symphony is an electronic composition in five movements on a single microchip. Though housed in a CD jewel case, 1-Bit Symphony is not a recording in the traditional sense; it literally “performs” its music live when turned on. A complete electronic circuit—programmed by the artist and assembled by hand—plays the music through a headphone jack mounted into the case itself. The project is set to be released on Cantaloupe on August 24, 2010.

Diego Stocco’s Bassoforte

June 19, 2010 |  by Joe  |  Motion  |  No Comments

Diego Stocco creates a new instrument with a dismantled piano and a bass guitar he calls Bassoforte (bass + pianoforte). This sounds so amazing. I really could get into this, and I hope to hear more.

The neck is from a broken electric bass, as a bridge I used a cabinet handle, the pickups are from a guitar, and the part at the top where the strings are attached is a chimney cap, which works as resonator as well as percussive sound.

You can check out his gallery with pictures and more detailed descriptions at behance.net/gallery/Bassoforte/535175.
